And you are right, the creek ran at the bottom of the hill. Years later I would wait for the creek to freeze and use that as my wintery highway to walk around the east side. We also would go sledding at the adjacent Pleasant Run Golf Course, but like you, our main sledding at home was at Ellenburger. I really loved sledding and miss those days (frozen pant legs and all.) My kids never got much opportunity to sled (my fault) and now they have grown beyond that age. I may have to wait for grandkids to have an excuse to hop back on a sled again. I'll probably break my hip when that day comes, however.

Thanks for commenting.Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08354263970813874412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2381922366997546161.post-83508621830967475332012-02-08T04:05:48.580-08:002012-02-08T04:05:48.580-08:00Hi Scott,

Is that the one you're talking about? Seems I remember the little creek at the bottom of the hill was a hazard to be contended with. Once I remember getting off course and plowing full speed into a kind of pile of brush & sticks on that hill too. Maybe that's why we preferred Ellenberger Park - a wider hill with fewer hazards.

I'll have to check with Mom to make sure, but I think once my family took our sleds with us on a winter visit to my grandparents WV. They lived on a hill, but it had a fair number of trees and, surprisingly, I have no distinct memory of sledding there...

Thanks as always for revivifying some old memories!

-JayAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2381922366997546161.post-32529922014329427972012-02-06T02:49:29.066-08:002012-02-06T02:49:29.066-08:00The sled would be put to good use here, we had gre...The sled would be put to good use here, we had great snowfalls - for this part of the country anyway - over the weekend. Six inches in general, drifts in the garden two feet, levelling out the steps between house and garden. The garden is a couple of feet lower than the terrace and house, so you can see how it is here at the moment!
Sitting by my window, looking out at all the lovely snowy gardens, hating the dirty slush on road sides and pavements, and wondering... 'If I see the Queen go by, should I wave?'
As you know she is a neighbour, loosely speaking, not that we are in the habit of popping round for a cuppa you understand, but her land boundary is just on our road here, and she is in the village this morning, so a heavy press and police presence has been seen.
But as usual, the country grinds to a halt.
Love, love your writing. Keep it up.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
